Draer Hu'tiya was a senator for Bothawui who ran for office as Galactic Alliance Chief of State but lost. His failure led him into dealings with Black Sun which erupted into the Bothan Uprising.
History[]
Draer was born on Bothawui to a middle class family. Her decided early in his life that he wanted to practice law and became a lawyer. Later on he changed his mind and decided to go into politics. It was there they he found his calling and eventually he became a senator for his planet.
During the 275 ABY election for GA Chief of State, Draer threw his hat into the ring and launched a major campaign with strong support along the Rim. Unfortunately he lost the election to Caamasi Senator Klau Li'klen. Draer was distraught at the loss. He became desperate. It was at that time that he was approached by members of Black Sun. They offered to dispose of Li'klen and replace him with Draer. In return, Draer would lend the Bothan fleet to their organization. Tempted by the possibility of becoming Chief of State, Draer agreed.
Black Sun acted immediately and information was revealed that linked Li'klen with the death of the Jedi Grand Master Cellian Rovei. Li'klen was then dismissed from office, however Draer was not selected as his replacement. Undetered, Black Sun sought to place Hu'tiya into a position of power by engineering a galactic crisis. Through complex schemes, blackmailing, and manipulation, numerour worlds were pitted against each other in an effort to start a civli war.
When Li'klen resurfaced with Jedi support and evidence that Black Sun was behind the claims of his arrest, the criminal orgainzation acted fast and siezed control of the Bothan fleet. They then tried to attack Kuat. Draer had watched the chaos unfold and decided that things had gone too far. He ordered all Bothans in the fleet to turn on the Black Sun members. The mass mutiny was successful and the attack on Kuat was averted. Afterwards Draer was able to hide his dealings with Black Sun and the Bothans part in the crisis was forgiven due to their heroics at Kuat.
Draer never got the chance to run for Chief of State again, but he did remain in the Senate.
Legacy[]
Though Draer never became Chief of State, his great grand child, Breu Hu'tiya, did.
Personality and Traits[]
Draer was an inteligent but brash individual. His ambition was dangerously unchecked and it was his overriding dream of being Chief of State that led to the Bothan Uprising.
